Common Questions
Answers to What People Often Ask
Do I need a will if my family situation seems straightforward?
Even in simple situations, a clearly prepared will removes the possibility of misunderstanding or dispute later. It also lets you state your wishes regarding specific items, care arrangements, or personal requests. It is one of the kinder things you can do for the people you leave behind.
How long does settling an estate in Thailand typically take?
It varies considerably depending on the assets involved, whether a will exists, and whether all parties are in agreement. Some estates reach settlement in a few months; others with property or disputes may take longer. We will give you a realistic picture once we understand your specific situation.
What happens if there is no will when someone passes away?
Under Thai civil and commercial law, the estate passes through the statutory heirs in a defined order — spouse, children, parents, siblings, and so on. The absence of a will does not leave matters in limbo, but it does mean the distribution follows the law rather than the person's own wishes. We can walk you through what that means for your family.
What documents should I gather before our first conversation?
You do not need to have everything ready before getting in touch. A general picture of the situation is enough for a first conversation. If documents are needed — identity papers, property title deeds, existing wills, bank records — we will tell you which ones apply as we learn more about your circumstances.
Are your fees fixed, or can they change during a matter?
The prices listed for each service represent our standard scope. If your matter requires additional work beyond what was initially discussed, we will explain that clearly and agree on any further costs before proceeding. There are no unannounced additions.
Can you assist clients who are based outside Thailand?
Yes. We regularly assist clients who are abroad and dealing with a Thai estate matter. Most communication can be handled by email or video call, and we can advise on which steps, if any, require a physical presence in Thailand.
